Basic Drawing commands for AutoCAD
AutoCAD is one of the oldest CAD Software, especially used for drafting purposes. If you wish to learn AutoCAD, then you should know all of these basic commands. Basic drawing commands will be available in the ‘Drafting and Annotation’ workspace in AutoCAD. This is the list of some of the most basic AutoCAD drawing commands which every AutoCAD user should know.
1. DRAW: This is one of the most important toolbars used for drawing basic geometries in AutoCAD.
a) Line: This command is used to create simple Line segments.
b) Polyline: This command is used to create polylines. With the help of Polylines, you can create continuous lines and Arcs.
c) Circle: With this command you can create a Circle in AutoCAD. For Circle, there are different subtypes available. With these subtypes, you can create Circle by providing specific inputs.
d) Rectangle: This command will make a rectangle in AutoCAD.
e) Polygon: This command can be used to make a polygon with a minimum of 3 sides and a maximum of 1024 sides.
f) Arc: As the name suggests, this command can be used to make an arc in AutoCAD.
g) ELLIPSE: As the name suggests, this command can be used to make an ellipse with the major and minor axis.
2. MODIFY: With the help of this toolbar, you can modify already created geometries.
a) Move: This command is used to move an object a specified distance in a specified direction.
b) Copy: This command is used to copy objects a specified distance in specified direction.
c) Rotate: This command is used to rotate a geometry around a specific base point.
d) Mirror: Creates a Mirror copy of selected object.
e) Scale: This command is used to change the scale of an object.
f) Trim: This command is used for trimming a geometry.
g) Extend: This command is used to extend the geometry till the edge of other geometry.
h) Fillet: This command can be used to add rounded corners to the sharp edges of the geometry. These round corners are also called fillets.
i) Chamfer: This command can be used to add slant edges to the sharp corners. These slant edges are also called chamfers.
j) ARRAY: With the help of this command you can make a Rectangular, Polar or Path array.
k) Explode: This command can be used to explode objects like Polyline to simple lines, an array or a block to a simple geometry, etc.
3. Annotation: This toolbar can be used for providing annotations to the created geometries.
a) Dimension: With the help of this command, you can provide dimensions to all the geometries. Dimensions can be provided in the form of Linear Dimension, Aligned Dimension, Radius, Diameter, Angular, etc.
b) Text: You can use this command to add text in the drafting environment.
c) Leader: This command can be used to add a leader in the drafting environment.
4. Layer: This command can be used to open the layer properties manage palette, which is a tool for creating and managing layers in a drawing.
5. Block: This command is used for creating a block, the properties of the block can be defined using the block definition window. You can also insert an existing block or a drawing as a block in AutoCAD.
These few basic drawing commands must be known to every user who is interested in learning AutoCAD.
